Boyz II Men give new music away for free on website

Boyz II Men may be taking a lesson from the Smashing Pumpkins, because both bands are giving away free music to their fans. They recently created a whole website dedicated to new music that comes out in between the album-making process.

“For many years your music has been centered around Boyz II Men Album releases, and if we didn’t release an album we wouldn’t put out music. Now that has all changed. Not only are we putting out music without having an album in the market place but we’re giving the songs away for FREE!!!!” the website states.

Boyz II Men said giving away music for free is “one of the joys of not being signed to a major record [label]” and that they think in the future all music will be free and musicians will make their money by giving concerts.

There are currently two songs on the website: “For the Rest of My Life” and “Wait for Me.” You can listen to them both by clicking here.

Boyz II Men 20th Anniversary Cruise

This is proving to be a busy year for Boyz II Men. Currently the boys are performing across Europe and will begin a coast to coast US tour in Las Vegas, July 10th. The tour is in support of their latest effort, “Love, “ which was released in November 2009.

Live performances will continue through September of this year and that’s not all for the trio. They have just announced their 20th Anniversary “Love Cruise!” The cruise will set sail February 11-14, 2011 to Nassau, Bahamas. Boyz II Men cruise activities aboard Carnival’s Imagination will include:

Boyz II Men is hitting its stride in 2009

Boyz II Men are continuing their comeback tour through the fall, including a number of stops in August.

Between the 14th and the 29th of August, the R&B legends will hit Detroit, MI, San Mateo, CA, Syracuse, NY and Chattanooga, TN. There are a few more stops in the Fall, including a three-night stint at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, and a two-night stop at the River Rock Casino in British Columbia over New Year’s Eve.

The quartet is supporting “Motown: A Journey Through Hitsville USA,” which was the band’s first studio album in over five years. The band put their spin on a number of classic Motown tracks, including Marvin Gaye’s “Mercy Mercy Me,” Smokey Robinson’s “The Tracks of My Tears,” and The Temptations’ “Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me).”

Philadelphia natives Boyz II Men have been dominating the R&B charts for over 20 years - they have scored five No. 1 pop hits and 12 Top 10 R&B singles. They sold more than 60 million albums worldwide and garnered four Grammy Awards over their career.
